Export readiness assessment quiz

What this is for

This quiz helps you assess whether your business has the basic foundations, capacity, and leadership commitment needed to move ahead with exporting. It also highlights areas where you may need to strengthen your business before, or alongside, your export journey.

Any No answers point to potential weaknesses, gaps or risks that should be addressed before making significant export commitments.

When to use it

Use this quiz:

  • before investing heavily in market visits, product adaptation, or detailed export planning
  • as a simple conversation starter inside your leadership team about whether exporting is realistic right now
  • when working with an advisor (for example, one of our trade commissioners or a consultant) and you need a quick overview of your readiness

Answer each question Yes or No, based on your current situation. Do not answer based on where you hope to be.

How to interpret your answers

  • Do not calculate a numeric score. Instead, note every question where you answered  No.
  • Treat each  No as a potential gap, weakness, or risk area for your export plans.
  • Consider all your No answers as areas that require careful review. These will likely need to be addressed if you plan to export.

Patterns to watch

  • Many No answers in Sections A to C suggest you may need to stabilize leadership, operations, or finances before committing to exports.

  • Many No answers in Sections D to I suggest you may need more work on market selection, digital basics, export knowledge, RBC, people capacity or product fit.

This quiz is a starting point – not a pass / fail test. Many successful exporters began with gaps and addressed them step by step.
